Typographer: Jessica Hische
There are very few designers that just blow me away with their skill, it takes a lot to impress me. Yet, when they do they are just something great I must share with others. Graphic Design, Illustrator and Typographer, Jessica Hische is one of those people I must share. She does freelance work out of her studio in Brooklyn, NY. I had been introduced to her work via a mutual friend, designer & illustrator Ronald J. Cala, II.
Early in my education I had not been a fan of typography, it just didn’t click with me at first. Yet, I grew to enjoy it even more by constantly working with it and seeing great examples of it. Jessica’s work is at a level that I wish I could achieve, in any of my typography work.
Being a recent graduate of Kean University, I was so happy when I found out that Jessica would be a guest speaker at our annual design conference Thinking Creatively. Another great designer besides Jessica who is speaking is Illustrator Ronald J. Cala, II. If you are interested in designs with optical illusions, he is the man to see.
To get a great idea of her illustration ability check out her Daily Drop Cap blog, it is a great example. Jessica goes through the entire alphabet in order, creating a different type style for each letter. Many of the letters have great filigree designed into them and some letters with creative cartoon-like elements, such as the letter ‘V’ that was created as a slice of pepperoni pizza. Jessica has another blog where she writes about some of the great design-related items she finds on the internet. A recent radio show in Austrailia had interviewed Jessica, her segment from that show can be heard here. Jessica_Radio_Talk_2010_03_18
Some of her drop caps and other designs can be purchased at her online store, found on her website. Jessica Hische is a great illustrator and someone you should definitely follow (@jessicahische).
